Yesterday at 430pm I made my way to yoga class.
I was driving, listening to music, sending a text, and making a mental note of what I needed to do that evening. Meanwhile I am singing Ho Hey at the top of my lungs on repeat, complete with steering wheel drums, and dramatic hand movements at my favorite parts.
And then I looked up.
And this is what I saw.
I quickly veered off main road into a random side street. I scrambled out of my car, and started walking towards those beautiful colors. The sky was on fire. I took a picture.
It’s moments like these, that are available to me everyday, but I don’t choose to take them. My favorite part of this skyline was right in the center of all those colors, where it got a little blurry. If the sky were a watercolor canvas, it’d be the part where the painter dropped more water, where they took the back of their hand to the canvas and then brushed it across.
People would come and wonder if it was all on purpose. Tilt their head at the painting and say, ‘hmmmm, it makes so much sense, but then right there in the middle, the lines, what happened’ with a contemplative sip of their pinot, they’d move on.
And then others….
Others would say it’s the middle that’s the soul. That all those colors blending together not knowing where one stopped, where one started, not being able to explain this is what I saw.
I cant explain what I saw. Other than I could not take my gaze from that place where the colors came together to make a fire. And all the other colors around it, persuaded this fire, surrounded this fire, they held those colors in the middle. They made them.
And that’s how I feel right now. In the center of all those colors. In the center of the fire. It’s the colors around us that make us. So make sure the ones around you are beautiful.
And don’t be afraid if things are a little blurry where you stand in the middle right now. It’s a hell of a lot better than standing on the outside wondering what it like to light a life. On fire.
To make a life not a living.
Bring me your blues and greens, and lay them down. Dance with me, your reds and oranges. In the backdrop of black, of night, lets tell secrets. Let yellow bring us into the sleepy morning of tomorrow.
Lets surround it all by water and dive in. Let them wonder, was this on purpose or an accident?
We know. And this fire is warm and soothing.
Today. Look up.
